About me

I am Joonas Kaselius, a 34-year-old trained music pedagogue and a professional teacher with nearly twenty years of work experience. Music has always fascinated me, which is why I have built my whole life around music.  I started learning music on a djembe drum at the age of 6 and began playing the electric guitar at the age of 12. I studied in conservatory through high school and upper secondary school, going on weekly guitar, music theory and band lessons. In 2009 I entered the Karelia University of Applied Sciences and studied music pedagogy for about five years, balancing my studies with working as a professional musician. 

I gave my first guitar lesson when I was 15 years old, and I have been a full-time or part-time music teacher my whole adult life. My student history covers about 300 students and they have been between the ages of 6 and 60. I'm an expert in teaching school-aged beginners, but I equally enjoy sparring teenagers and adults of various skill levels! I also have a lot of experience from working with children with special needs and I have developed excellent teaching methods for pupils with hyperactivity or other neurological divergence.

  • Playing and practicing should feel relaxed, effortless and pleasant
  • The best way to learn is by playing music you like
  • Diverse studies will make the playing skill flourish
  • Theory is learned hand-in-hand with playing, in such a way that it supports practical needs
  • A song is the basic unit of music and you can learn to play a whole song during the first lesson
  • Music as a hobby supports self-confidence and comprehensively develops cognitive abilities
  • A good teacher is open, friendly, enjoys teaching and is genuinely interested in their student

In addition to teaching, I have a diverse history of working within the music industry. As a student, you'll gain access to enormous amount of know-how from a multidisciplinary music professional.

Musician

I am an experienced performer and singer. Some of my higlights of my career have been gigs at Tavastia, Pakkahuone, Rytmikorjaamo and Ilosaarirock. In addition to performing with my band Nerve End, I have also performed a lot acoustically, both solo and as a duo in Finland and abroad. I am an official Ibanez artist. It is possible to book me as a performer for all kinds of events. 

Producer

I have produced numerous recordings, especially in the field of heavier music. In addition to this, I have also produced pop music and music for advertising campaigns. If you are interested in production, feel free to contact me. Here's my production portfolio.

Mixing engineer

Mixing is literally about mixing sounds! A good mix serves the song as a whole and is pleasant to listen to regardless of the listening device and playback volume. Composer

Writing music has been a part of my everyday life since elementary school. I started playing by inventing my own chord progressions and melody snippets. I have primarily composed and written music for the band Nerve End. In addition to this, I have written a lot of pop music in Finnish and English.
